Maya had always been the popular girl at Jefferson Elementary. She had many
friends who wanted to sit with her at lunch and be her partner in class projects.
However, when Maya broke her leg in a soccer accident, everything changed.
Most of her friends disappeared when she couldn't join their games anymore.

Only Sarah remained by Maya's side. Sarah helped Maya carry her books,
pushed her wheelchair, and ate lunch with her every day. When Maya felt
sad about missing soccer practice, Sarah listened patiently and cheered her up
with funny stories. Sarah even learned to play chess so Maya wouldn't be
bored during recess.

"Why are you being so kind to me?" Maya asked one day. "You could be
playing with the other kids instead." Sarah smiled and replied, "Real friends
don't leave when things get difficult. They stick around and help each other
through tough times." Maya realized that she had learned an important lesson
about friendship. When her leg healed, Maya made sure to be the kind of
friend to others that Sarah had been to her.

From that day forward, Maya valued genuine friendship over popularity.
She understood that true friends care about who you are, not what you can
do for them.

💡 Strategy Tip: Look for the lesson the character learns by the end of the story. Main ideas are usually about what the character discovers or how they change.
⚠️ Common Mistake: Don't pick details from the story. The main idea is the big lesson, not small facts.
2. Answer: C
✓✓✓ Verified: According to lines 8-9, "Sarah even learned to play chess so Maya wouldn't be bored during recess."
💡 Strategy Tip: For detail questions, look for the exact information in the passage. The answer should be clearly stated in the text.
⚠️ Common Mistake: Don't confuse different helpful actions Sarah did. Each answer choice mentions something Sarah did, but only one answers the specific question about recess.
3. Answer: B
✓✓✓ Verified: Line 18 clearly states: "From that day forward, Maya valued genuine friendship over popularity." This shows how Maya changed her priorities.
💡 Strategy Tip: Compare how the character was at the beginning vs. the end. Look for words like "realized," "learned," or "understood."
